After the successful implementation of the Iraqi Transportation Network (ITN), the Department of Defense again turned to aXseum to develop a sustainable logistics network in Afghanistan.

aXseum determined the feasability of building the Afghan Transportation Network (ATN), identified the specific challenges that were unique to the region, and created a detailed plan to create a sustainable network that would succeed as the ITN had in Iraq.

This work led to the implementation of a business plan for national companies chartered to transport U.S. military materials and publicly-traded goods throughout Afghanistan. This business allowed local commerce to thrive under private management that will continue to grow after US forces withdraw.

The ATN preserved the lives of U.S. troops by taking them off the roads. It also established new economic activity that encourages stability in the region.

Selected successes during Operation Enduring Freedom:

• 4,174 missions completed with no hits and no theft
• The ATN replaced 493 U.S. Military missions to date
• 15,000 (estimated) Soldiers were taken out of harm’s way
• ATN transported goods to dangerous areas replacing other forces
• ATN delivered to areas where others would not
• No use of armed security escorts
• Reduced the number of Warfighters and military equipment needed for trucking missions
• Expanded the ATN in line with military operations
• Shortened the logistics pipeline from two weeks to three days
• Improved the service from 60% to 98% on-time
