Since 1951, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) has been acting on behalf of the United States around the world to solve problems, end extreme poverty, and promote U.S. interests around the world. The mission of USAID is clear:
We partner to end extreme poverty and to promote resilient, democratic societies while advancing our security and prosperity.
Since 2011, aXseum, alongside teaming partner Advanced Engineering Associates International, has served USAID to build Afghanistan’s ability to provide domestic energy through the Sheberghan Gas Generation Activity (SGGA) project. The project has been aimed at utilizing Afghanistan’s natural resources to provide energy. This, in turn, will reduce Afghanistan’s dependence on foreign energy, create jobs, stimulate economic growth, and attract international investment to the region.
aXseum’s expertise has served the USAID project in three primary areas: energy, capacity building, and transparency.
Energy
aXseum’s energy experts provide insight on a variety of technical components for SGGA including:
- drilling and engineering management for new gas reserve assessments
- construction of gas pipeline and transportation
- rehabilitation of existing natural gas wells
- implementation of new power generation plants and new uses for natural gas
- extensive feasibility reporting, RFP process design and review, and engineering consultation
aXseum experts on the ground in Afghanistan and around the world have enabled the great successes of USAID energy projects.
Capacity Building
One of the challenges of developing a new energy market in Afghanistan is encouraging and creating demand for the product, compressed natural gas (CNG). While supply is abundant, demand has historically been low because of reliance on traditional fuels in the region. aXseum provides capacity building expertise to educate local businesses, engineers, and government interests in the use and opportunities that CNG presents.
This capacity building involves providing education about oil and natural gas markets and opportunities. It also involves attracting local and international investment in the business opportunities that the USAID project creates.
Transparency
Operating in an emerging market requires trust and establishing reliable business practices. aXseum provides transparency services under USAID to ensure that as the marketplace for CNG develops it happens in compliance with best practices for tendering the resources that Afghanistan has. During exploration, drilling, extraction, and every aspect of the operation, aXseum monitors for performance and compliance with the mission requirements.
aXseum continues to solve problems both in the U.S. and around the world. We are proud to partner with USAID and Advanced Engineering Associates International in the development of CNG and other energy markets around the world.
